There are many arguments for and against generative AI, and while many professors and classes seem to have embraced it, I think GW and professors are overlooking the environmental impacts of generative AI. The impacts of generative AI are reported on frequently in national media, but people are so wrapped up in using generative AI that they overlook these consequences. I believe everyone in the GW community should pay more attention to how generative AI is shaping the world because the impacts of generative AI will soon impact everyone’s life. One of the key environmental concerns with generative AI is the really high water usage. GW students need to start thinking more critically about when they use generative AI before it destroys our world.
