— A school shooting in southern Minneapolis left at least two students dead and nearly 20 others injured, renewing questions about what is being done to protect students in classrooms. With students returning to classrooms, Douglas School District officials say their top priority is making sure children and staff are safe and secure. “Every school district’s priority is to keep their staff and students safe,” Pettit said. “Our SROs are trained outside of our school district, so they have the most recent and up-to-date knowledge where they can come in and train our staff members,” Pettit said. Staff and students also take part in ALICE training, which stands for Alert, Lockdown, Inform, Counter and Evacuate.
