New provincial funding will allow for an additional mental health and addictions worker to attend some police calls. FORT FRANCES – A partnership between the Town of Fort Frances, the OPP and the Canadian Mental Health Association has secured additional funding for more mental health supports. Currently, there are two such specialists working with the OPP in Fort Frances, mayor Andrew Hallikas told Newswatch. In Fort Frances, Hallikas said the program was put in place a bit more recently, but it has been running for a few years now. John McTaggart said police aren’t trained as mental health workers, so having a specialist alongside when dealing with mental health calls is a major benefit.
