In Ghana, poverty is a significant issue, with around 24.2% of the national population living below the poverty line. Only around 11% of schools in Ghana have functional libraries; in rural areas, only one library exists for 500,000 residents. Additionally, many rural areas in Ghana lack reliable internet and electricity, preventing students from accessing digital resources when learning. Ghana Library Authority InitiativesThe Ghana Library Authority has launched several innovative programs that use modern and traditional methods to help children in Ghana start reading and learning. They also enable parents and students to access reading opportunities on any device through a digital reading app called BookSmart.
