Elected officials, community leaders, and family members gathered Monday to demonstrate outside city hall in Malden, Massachusetts, to demand that immigration officials release Edgar Hernán Elías Escobar, a Salvadoran national arrested Wednesday while on his way to work. His wife Leslie Perlera, an attorney, alleged that Escobar's rights were violated during the operation. There hasn’t been a time when Hernan felt truly alone because this community has shown up for him,” Popperson told the crowd. A Salvadoran man says he was violently taken into custody by immigration agents while he was on his way to work Wednesday. “We've been married for almost a year,” Leslie commented, noting that they will celebrate their first anniversary in October.
