['Thea Digiammerino', 'Boston Staff Reports']
Local – NBC Boston
A former MBTA Transit Police sergeant has been sentenced for his role in filing a false report on an officer's assault of a man at a Red Line station in Boston in 2018, federal prosecutors said.
During that shift, another officer - Transit Police Officer Dorston Bartlett assaulted an unhoused man, hitting the victim in the leg with a steel police baton.
Prosecutors said that Finnerty became involved during the booking process, when the victim told him about the assault.
David Finnerty, a former sergeant with the MBTA Transit Police, is facing federal charges after allegedly covering up an unprovoked assault at a T stop in 2018.
Bartlett, who has since retired, also faced criminal charges of assault and battery and was sentenced to probation, Universal Hub reported at the time.
