Austrian oil firm OMV sacks alleged Russian spy

Austrian oil and gas company OMV said it has dismissed an employee accused of spying for Russia, confirming reports in local media.
Advertisement“It’s correct that we have terminated the employment contract with the employee concerned,” OMV CEO Alfred Stern told journalists.
Austrian magazine Profil reported last week that the employee, who comes from Eastern Europe, had held regular meetings with a Russian diplomat.
OMV’s ties to RussiaIn 2018, OMV extended a long-term gas supply contract with Russian energy giant Gazprom, due to run until 2040.
The decision “did not please” Russian President Vladimir Putin, Profil reported.
