She doesn’t need me to do much of anything for her these days. The term we use when a dad walks his daughter (or son, as the case may be) down the aisle is that we’re “giving them away,” but I’ve never liked that. She’s giving herself to another. But it feels like I’m giving her away. Yes, if you parent right, you end up with kids who don’t need you, but hopefully, instead of needing you in their lives, they’ll just want you there.
