BISMARCK — After a veto snafu nearly resulted in the loss of $35 million for affordable housing, North Dakota lawmakers are working to establish a date in state law to address vetoes handed down after the legislative session adjourns. Reexamining the process and authority surrounding a governor’s veto began when Gov. The veto error occurred after lawmakers concluded their work at the Capitol, meaning they would need a special session to address the issue. Following the May veto mishap, lawmakers also held a magnifying glass to the extent of the governor’s veto authority. It is slated to be introduced during the next legislative session in 2027.
