A fond farewell to Ione Christensen, a key figure in Yukon historyThe territory was saddened with the news of the passing of Ione Christensen on Sept. 15. I knew her because of her love of Yukon history. While active with the Pioneer Women, they produced a series of “Trailblazers of the Yukon” calendars, profiling pioneer Yukon women, as well as a cookbook titled Memories and Recipes: A collection by Yukon Pioneer Women and two volumes of North to New Horizons: Short Stories by Yukon Women. For me, it was her strong affection for Yukon history that meant the most. So, thank you Ione Christensen for all your contributions to our community, for your leadership, for your humanity and your sense of tradition and pride of place.
