Social media is an important source of support for young people, where they go for help with important issues that they are reluctant to talk to adults about, particularly for gender diverse and other marginalised young people. Banning young people from these platforms risks cutting them off from crucial sources of connection, creativity, learning and support, essentially winding back their rights to participate in society even more than they are restricted now.
