South Miami officials on Tuesday announced that the city has reached a milestone in its fight against homelessness. Referred to as "functional zero," experts say it is a designation that signals when a community has successfully ended long-term homelessness. Other institutions, like Baptist Health South Miami and others, helped to give shelter beds and services year-round. “South Miami has stayed committed to executing our strategic plan, and the results are clear in the latest census. We will continue striving for excellence, guided by a compassionate, practical, and personalized approach to ending homelessness in South Miami.”
