A man jumped into a canal to flee from troopers during a traffic stop in Broward on Monday morning, authorities said. The man, identified as 29-year-old Jonathan Hernandez Guzman, was arrested on charges of aggravated battery on an officer, resisting an officer with violence, and escape. According to an arrest report, a trooper determined that Hernandez Guzman, who was identified by his Mexican passport, was having "immigration issues." That's when Hernandez Guzman jumped into the canal and started swimming away before he was taken into custody, the report said. U.S. Border Patrol was contacted to assist with the identification of the other passengers, officials said.
