The state’s Republican party is calling for the resignation of Democratic state Treasurer Deb Goldberg over the long-serving public official’s handling of problems at the Cannabis Control Commission. “Treasurer Goldberg has been in office 11 years, and in that time she has managed to turn a thriving arm of state government into the capital of out-of-state junkets and Cadillac catering. Her lackluster defense for firing Commissioner O’Brien is just the tip of the iceberg,” MassGOP Chair Amy Carnevale said in a statement. “It’s no wonder why Republicans are eager to introduce a serious challenger for the Office of State Treasurer in 2026,” she said. The state treasurer was not available for comment.
