A juvenile male died on Wednesday from a self-inflicted gunshot wound that he sustained after shooting and injuring two fellow students at Evergreen High School, the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office said. The two victims were hospitalized as a result of the shooting, which was reported shortly after noon in Evergreen, a quiet mountain town roughly 30 minutes west of Denver. Investigators are processing “multiple scenes at the school,” both inside and outside the building, Jacki Kelley, a sheriff’s office spokesperson, said in a press conference. “All three (students) that were transported immediately from the school sustained gunshot wounds, and we think that that’s it,” Kelley said. “I am horrified by the shooting at Evergreen High School, and my heart breaks for the students, educators, families and school personnel whose start to the school year has now been marked by inexplicable violence and harm,” said Rep. Tammy Story of Conifer.
