Corteva is potentially considering a split of its core businesses — crop seed and pesticide — into separate companies. According to a report in The Wall Street Journal, the split could come soon. A split could help protect Corteva from potential liabilities akin to those faced by rival Bayer, whose herbicide Roundup has been the subject of many lawsuits. Bayer also got out of the seed treatment equipment business in the US to help the company's finances. In June 2019, DowDuPont completed the corporate spin-off of the company and Corteva became a separate company in 2019 as part of a three-way spinoff of DowDuPont into Corteva, DuPont, and Dow.
