LINCOLN — Nebraskans seeking an appointment to an Omaha-based seat on the Nebraska Supreme Court have until Sept. 25 to apply ahead of public interviews scheduled for mid-October. Ben Nelson appointed to the seven-member high court in 1998, announced in late August that she plans to retire Oct. 31. She is the longest current-serving member of the Supreme Court. Candidates for the Supreme Court must be U.S. citizens who are at least 30 years old, have been engaged in practicing Nebraska law for at least five years and be currently admitted to practice before the Nebraska Supreme Court. Nebraska Supreme Court justices are paid a salary of $228,431.
