This week on Behind The Lens, the number of Louisiana kindergarteners reading at or above grade level doubled during the 2024-25 school year, state officials reported earlier this month. That data comes from the state’s early literacy screener — a test to measure whether kindergarten through third/grade students are reading at grade level. From that first experience, she created a performance that tells the story of what is known as American music. She says the music started with the Black community and her performances are meant not only to entertain but also to educate audiences on the roots of American music. Our guests this week are Lens education reporter Marta Jewson, and social media manager and cultural reporter Mizani Ball.
