Swedish government budgets for nuclear new-build

World Nuclear News
In the budget bill for 2026, the Swedish government has proposed a financial framework for companies seeking government loans to fund the construction of new nuclear power projects.
In May this year, Sweden's parliament - the Riksdag - approved the government's proposals for providing state aid to companies that want to invest in new nuclear reactors in the country.
Preparing for permit reviews"Effective permitting processes for new nuclear power in more locations are an important part of a climate transition that drives Sweden forward," the government said.
It is said it is therefore investing in a "multi-part package of measures" in which the appropriations for the Swedish Radiation Safety Authority, the Swedish Environmental Protection Agency, the county administrative boards, the Swedish National Debt Office and the Swedish Courts will increase by a total of SEK161 million in 2026.
"This lays the foundation for faster permits with local acceptance – so that new nuclear power can coexist with other interests."
