For the first time in recent history, newsrooms across the world have coordinated a large-scale editorial protest in solidarity with journalists in Gaza. Online media outlets blacked out their homepages or published a banner as a sign of solidarity. On the night of August 10 alone, the Israeli army killed six journalists in a targeted strike against Al Jazeera correspondent Anas al-Sharif. Fifteen days later, on August 25, the Israeli army killed five journalists in two consecutive strikes. A few selected outlets have embedded reporters with Israeli army units operating in Gaza under the condition of strict military censorship.
