A new national report from Electrolux has found that everyday laundry habits are a significant but often overlooked contributor to textile waste in Australia. Globally, poor care practices contribute to the 92 million tonnes of textile waste generated each year, much of it from clothing discarded prematurely. This isn’t just about appliances – it’s about helping people take simple, meaningful actions that reduce waste.”To address the gap identified in the report, Electrolux has partnered with Whitehouse Institute of Design, Australia. Through workshops and testing with Electrolux appliances, students in Fashion Design and Creative Direction and Styling are exploring the connection between design, use, and garment longevity. “Designing for sustainability doesn’t end with the runway, it lives on in the laundry,” said Whitehouse.
