For years, AFG had an experienced, dedicated team handling cattle that functioned really well. The next step was getting all the employees who performed stunning and cattle handling to work as a team to find creative solutions to some equipment problems. Their equipment worked really well for the big cattle, but worked poorly for the smaller cows. In my work with many different companies, I have learned that when top management really cares, both animal handling and stunning will be done right. Three plant managers were removed, and with new management practices at the three plants stunning and handling quickly improved.
