WASHINGTON – The United Food and Commercial Workers Union (UFCW) recently published its position after a new report from the Economic Policy Institute (EPI) came out on the H-2B visa program. Another large union group, Retail, Wholesale and Department Store Union (RWDSU), also commented on the report. RWDSU represents more than 15,000 poultry workers at facilities across the southern United States, as well as meatpacking and processing workers in other parts of the country. “The RWDSU strongly opposes expansion of the H-2B visa program into poultry processing and meatpacking,” said Stuart Appelbaum, president of RWDSU. The H-2B classification is for applicants who are temporarily in the United States to perform services or non-agricultural work of a temporary or seasonal nature.
