According to a report by the CBC’S Catherine Tunne, longtime Liberal minister Chrystia Freeland is stepping down from cabinet and has signalled her plans to leave federal politics.
In a letter posted to social media on Tuesday, the transport and internal trade minister said she made the decision "with tremendous gratitude and a little sadness."
Freeland has long been one of Canada’s most vocal opponents of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.
Prominent Liberal MP Chrystia Freeland has announced she’s leaving her cabinet post and doesn’t intend to run in the next election.
Canada-U.S. Trade Minister Dominic LeBlanc will absorb Freeland’s internal trade duties and government House leader Steven MacKinnon will take on transport.
