Morocco’s Foreign Minister Nasser Bourita held a working session Monday in New York with the UN Secretary-General’s Personal Envoy for the Moroccan Sahara, Staffan de Mistura, at the envoy’s request, Morocco’s Press Agency (MAP) reported. The meeting, attended also by Morocco’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Ambassador Omar Hilale, is part of De Mistura’s consultations ahead of the upcoming sessions of the UN Security Council. The delegation also reiterated Morocco’s support for the efforts of the UN Secretary-General and his personal envoy. The discussion touched on recent international momentum in favor of Morocco’s sovereignty over the Sahara and support for the Autonomy Plan as the only basis for reaching a political settlement to the regional dispute. The meeting highlighted the ongoing UN consultations and the upcoming Security Council deadlines as crucial moments for shaping the debate around the Sahara issue.
