A Gresham football player continues to recover in the intensive care unit after suffering a serious spinal cord injury during a game. During the game on Friday, Sept. 19, against David Douglas, junior Tucker Santillanes injured his neck. The game was paused as Portland Fire stabilized him, and Tucker was taken by ambulance to the hospital. “Being called onto the field and seeing him unable to move was a sobering moment,” said Tom Santillanes, Tucker’s dad. “I can’t find words to express our gratitude for the way we were surrounded outside the emergency room — friends, teammates, coaches, school administrators,” Tom Santillanes said.
