Morocco’s National Union of Doctors in the Private Sector (SNMSL) is sounding the alarm on public sector physicians who abandon their duties at public hospitals to work illegally in private clinics, worsening the country’s healthcare crisis. In a statement on Monday, SNMSL warned that the widespread practice of dual employment is leaving public hospitals understaffed, undermining patient care, and fueling public outrage over deteriorating medical services. “This inertia and laxity only aggravate the crisis linked to the illegal practice of medicine,” the statement read. The SNMSL warned that these illegal practices not only endanger patients but also harm medical training and deal a blow to small private clinics already struggling to compete. Critics argue that the same urgency must be applied to healthcare reform, especially in rural areas where medical services remain scarce.
