Skimming device found at Dollar Tree in East Portland
['Hannah Seibold']
The Portland Tribune
A Dollar Tree employee reported finding a skimming device — a device that is placed over card readers and illegally captures data and PIN entries — at their store near Mall 205 in Portland.
On Tuesday, Sept. 23, Portland Police Bureau responded to the report at 10534 S.E.
Washington St., and reportedly found the skimming device at a cash register nearest to the store’s entrance.
These devices look like a normal card reader and are often placed at ATMs, gas pumps and retail terminals to steal customers’ credit and debit information during transactions.
Police said anyone who may have shopped at this Dollar Tree location between Saturday, Sept. 20, and Tuesday morning, Sept. 23, should closely review their credit or debit card statements for any unauthorized or suspicious activity.
