A two-year “twinning project” between Namibia and Finland, designed to enhance the country’s capacity for managing shared water resources, concluded on Wednesday with a final workshop in Windhoek. The twinning project provided crucial support for the country to join the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe Water Convention, and the final workshop served as a review of the partnership, which was instrumental in strengthening Namibia’s water diplomacy and governance. Finnish Chargé d’Affaires and Deputy Head of Mission, Sakarias Rantala, in a statement, said the twinning project provided a valuable platform for dialogue between institutions and has laid the foundation for more cooperation in water governance. “Through this collaboration, technical expertise and institutional capacity have been strengthened, while water management and diplomacy have been brought closer together,” he said. The two countries are now preparing to sign a Memorandum of Understanding to formalize their commitment to ongoing cooperation in water management.
