The Second Africa Climate Summit (ACS2) officially opened on Monday in Addis Ababa, with African leaders issuing a powerful call to action for the continent. Convened by the African Union Commission and hosted by Ethiopia, the summit’s central message was a demand to shift from mere talk to concrete climate action. Leaders urged the world to see Africa not as a victim of climate change, but as a driving force for global solutions and the next major green economy. President William Ruto of Kenya, host of the inaugural Africa Climate Summit in Nairobi, praised Ethiopia for building on that momentum. Structured around five pillars of innovation, discovery, financing, knowledge development, policy enablement, and public engagement, the Compact plans to deliver 1,000 African climate solutions by 2030 across energy, agriculture, water, transport, and resilience.
