The Namibia Ports Authority (Namport) this week took a major step toward modernizing its operations, commissioning three new mobile harbour cranes to enhance trade efficiency and address service disruptions at the country’s main ports. Two of the high-tech cranes were deployed at the Port of Walvis Bay, which serves as the primary logistics hub and a key gateway for regional trade. The third crane was put into service at the Port of Lüderitz, further boosting its capacity. He further highlighted that the recently completed dredging exercise, which entails the deepening and widening of the channel at the Port of Walvis Bay, has also put them in a position where the Port of Walvis Bay is now also able to bring in larger bulk carriers to our deeper berths 1, 2, and 3. While the port upgrades are a critical step, Kanime cautioned that their full economic potential balances on landside logistics.
