According to CRAN’s Quarterly Statistics Bulletin for the period of 1 April to 30 June, the surge was largely driven by Android.Badbox2 botnet, which has been targeting low-cost Android devices and smart systems. The bulletin also highlighted a 2% rise in vulnerabilities across local networks, underscoring the critical need for stronger digital defenses. The report provides a comprehensive overview of the country’s information and communication technology (ICT) landscape, including statistics on telecommunications, broadcasting, and postal services. Mobile traffic volumes surged, with outgoing minutes up by 7 percent and mobile data consumption increasing by 8%, while SMS volumes continued their downward slide, falling by 3%. The postal sector, however, showed signs of recovery, with post box usage climbing 10% and private bag utilisation growing by 4%.
