Morocco’s National Union of Private Sector Doctors (SNMSL) denounced the indefinite postponement of professional elections, calling the move “illegal” and an abuse of power, according to a statement following a national meeting in Casablanca on Sunday.
The union said the decision to delay elections for the National Council of Doctors lacked any legal basis.
It warned that such actions undermine democratic principles, transparency, and the rights of doctors to freely choose their representatives.
The union is demanding swift and transparent elections based on a sectoral voting system, which it says is already guaranteed by law.
Beyond the election dispute, the doctors are pushing for reforms to Law 08-12, which regulates the profession, arguing that independent doctors must be included in any changes.
