US President Donald Trump used his return to the United Nations General Assembly on Tuesday to urge countries to close their borders and expel foreigners, accusing the UN of driving a “globalist migration agenda” that he said was destroying national identities. Speaking on the UN’s 80th anniversary, Trump told world leaders that the organization was “funding an assault” on their countries by supporting migration programs, The Guardian reported. Trump targeted European governments in particular, claiming they were “destroying your heritage” by allowing migrants to settle because of “political correctness.” He argued that UN-backed programs offering food, shelter, and debit cards facilitated migration to Western nations. On foreign policy, Trump repeated his proposal to impose heavy tariffs on Russia to end its invasion of Ukraine, but demanded that European states first halt purchases of Russian energy. Trump’s speech was his first appearance at the UN in six years and underscored his long-standing hostility toward multilateral institutions, which he has repeatedly called corrupt and ineffective.
