A federal jury on Tuesday convicted Ryan Routh, 59, of attempting to assassinate US President Donald Trump on a Florida golf course last September, finding him guilty of all charges, including firearm offenses, The New York Times reported. The incident took place on September 15, 2024, when Trump, then a presidential candidate, was golfing at his West Palm Beach course, minutes from Mar-a-Lago. A Secret Service agent spotted a rifle barrel emerging from the bushes, fired on the suspect, and later helped in Routh’s arrest nearby. Routh, a North Carolina native who lived in Hawaii before the attack, pleaded not guilty and chose to represent himself during the trial, which began on September 8 at the federal courthouse in Fort Pierce. In court, he challenged Trump to a golf match, asked for a putting green, and gave rambling remarks touching on human evolution, kindness, Adolf Hitler, and Vladimir Putin before the judge cut off his opening statement.
