Puna Man Arrested and Charged for Unauthorized Entry Into a Motor Vehicle and Theft Offenses

27 year-old Benjamin Newman of Puna was arrested and charged for unauthorized entry into a motor vehicle at a Hilo residence.
According to police, a resident reported that her vehicle had been rummaged through and that personal items removed.
On Thursday, Newman made his initial Hilo District Court appearance where his bail wasmaintained at $43,000.00 and he was ordered to appear for a preliminary hearing today.
As the Complaint alleges, Newman is charged with Unauthorized Entry Into a Motor Vehicle inthe First Degree, Theft in the Third Degree, and Unauthorized Possession of Confidential PersonalInformation.
Unauthorized Entry Into a Motor Vehicle in the First Degree and Unauthorized Possession of Confidential Personal Information are both class C felony offenses and carry a penalty of either a five-year prison term of four years probation and up to twelve months in jail.
