During the week of Sept. 1 to Sept. 7, 2025, Hawai‘i Island police arrested 13 motorists for driving under the influence of an intoxicant. So far in 2025, there have been 612 DUI arrests compared with 673 during the same period last year, a decrease of 35 percent. To date, there have been 15 fatal crashes, resulting in 16 compared with 20 fatal crashes, resulting in 22 fatalities for the same time last year. This represents a decrease of 25 percent for fatal crashes and 27.3 percent for fatalities. So far in 2025, the non-traffic fatality count (not on a public roadway) is zero, compared to zero non-traffic fatalities for the same time last year.
