During the week of September 8 to September 14, 2025, Hawai‘i Island police arrested 20 motorists for driving under the influence of an intoxicant. So far in 2025, there have been 632 DUI arrests compared with 691 during the same period last year, a decrease of 8.54 percent. To date, there have been 15 fatal crashes, resulting in 16 fatalities, compared with 20 fatal crashes, resulting in 22 fatalities for the same time last year. This represents a decrease of 25 percent for fatal crashes and 27.3 percent for fatalities. So far in 2025, the non-traffic fatality count (not on a public roadway) is zero, compared to zero non-traffic fatalities for the same time last year.
