The mayor of Timmins says the city has already been preparing for the advent of the Canada Nickel Crawford Mine. Last Thursday, it was added to the federal government list of nation building projects that will get help getting around red tape. Mayor Michelle Boileau says City Hall has been working on a growth management study, getting a good sense of what’s needed to support Crawford and many other projects. “The city’s leading a residential subdivision and we’re servicing the lots over at Melrose Heights,” she points out. “That being said,” she continues, “we do know that closure is imminent at the Kidd mine and we so do expect that some of the workforce from there will be able to transfer over to Canada Nickel’s Crawford project.
