The former operator of an East Victoria Park restaurant is facing legal action in the Federal Court after the Fair Work Ombudsman accused it of failing to repay staff it allegedly underpaid over nearly two years. GCH Vic Park Pty Ltd, which ran the now-closed Globe Pan and Grill on Albany Highway, has been hit with proceedings alongside company director Jay Patel. Fair Work inspectors allege the company short-changed 16 workers, including cooks and food-and-beverage attendants, between December 2021 and July 2023. But the ombudsman alleges GCH Vic Park failed to comply without a reasonable excuse, and that Mr Patel was involved in the breach. It also wants the court to order GCH Vic Park to comply with the original notice — meaning full rectification of all outstanding entitlements, including superannuation, plus interest.
