On Tuesday, Moldovan President Maia Sandu addressed Members of the European Parliament (MEPs) in Strasbourg, focusing on the significant threats to democratic values. During the session, European Parliament President Roberta Metsola commended President Sandu for her determination, courage, and steadfast commitment to the people of Moldova, stating that the EU stands united in its support for Moldova and its democratic path toward European Union membership. President Sandu conveyed the notion that Moldova’s experiences should serve as both a lesson and a poignant warning: “If our democracy cannot be protected, then no democracy in Europe is safe,” she emphasised. She further discussed the EU accession process, illustrating that many countries currently in the European Union faced similar challenges before they joined the Union. While Moldova may serve as a testing ground, Europe remains the ultimate target,” stated the President of Moldova.
