What machine were you using Marius? AFAIK you should be able to boot into Windows 8 without secure boot enabled (http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/hh824987.aspx) - it shouldn't disable your machine. I haven't really played around with it enough to know what you can and can't do, but I know our office Surface has SB turned off and works fine. It is a problem though - I definitely agree there...
