Calgary Animal Services Centre is committed to providing necessary medical care to stray animals across the city, ensuring they have a chance at a healthy, happy life. A shining example of this dedication is the story of Gus, a stray cat who underwent surgery at the shelter and now thrives in his forever home.Gus was found roaming as a stray, struggling with a severe breathing issue due to extremely narrow nostrils. Likely abandoned by a previous owner because of this medical condition, Gus sounded congested and had to rely on open-mouth breathing to survive. His condition would have continued to deteriorate without intervention.Gus, before his surgery:Dr Jagjit Cheema, a Veterinarian employed with Calgary Animal Services, performed a rhinoplasty to correct Gus' breathing. The surgery enlarged his nostrils, alleviating his respiratory problems and improving his quality of life. Gus’ recovery went smoothly, and he was soon able to breathe and play normally.Gus, after his surgery:          A Happy Ending for GusShortly after his recovery, Gus found a new home with his adopter, who first spotted him on the shelter’s impound list. “I wasn’t aware that the Calgary Animal Services Centre offered adoption services until I saw an ad on social media. When I saw Gus’ sad little eyes, I knew I had to meet him,” Jonie Doris, his adopter, shared. “He was sweet and calm, and the staff were so excited when I came to visit him.  He wanted belly scratches from day one.”Jonie’s first visit with Gus at the Animal Services Centre:      Gus, also affectionately known as Augustus, has fully adjusted to his new life. "He’s doing great now! He loves to look out the window, suntan, and sleep on his bed. He’s very playful, loves his bouncy balls and springs, and enjoys being around people. He breathes perfectly fine, and you can see how much better he feels."Jonie added, “Gus just fits right into the family.
