On October 15, 2023, PC Oliver Stovell was assigned to hospital guard duties for a detainee who had attempted to self-harm. During this deployment, PC Stovell used language that was insulting and abusive both directly to the individual and within earshot of him. The misconduct hearing found his behaviour fell below the standards expected of the force. The misconduct hearing, chaired by Norfolk Police assistant chief constable, Nicholas Davidson concluded the allegations were proven at misconduct, not gross misconduct. PC Stovell was found to have breached the standards of professional behaviour in the areas of authority, respect and courtesy, equality and diversity, and discreditable conduct.
