Stories are starting to flow about the former KVMR 89.5 FM volunteer broadcaster known as the California Okie, named after a Buck Owens song about someone with Oklahoma connections. “You’d have to say he was a pioneer in Americana music on KVMR,” recalls Emery. “Music-wise, he was just so knowledgeable,” notes Wesley Robertson, who Staneart mentored at KVMR after the two met as social workers and became fast friends. “So join 40 of your favorite KVMR broadcasters and volunteers and Get on the Bus,” suggests organizer Adriana Kelly. Cost is $45, including bus fare and ticket to the show, available by calling 530/264-4165 or emailing [email protected].
