The deadline to apply for KVMR 89.5 FM’s annual broadcaster training class has been extended to next Monday, May 20th, but it’s going to a little different than any other previous class. After the classes and a studio orientation training, class members will have a mentoring period with a current KVMR broadcaster and, if ultimately certified, become eligible to be an on-air broadcaster. Her mother, Marty Durlin, was general manager of community station KGNU in Boulder, Colorado, for over 20 years. Coincidentally, Durlin has also recently moved to California to manage community radio station KZYX in Mendocino County. The station is a volunteer-driven, community radio station, powered by some 200 citizen-broadcasters.
