People all over the world make and record music using instruments and vocal stylings that reflect their culture, customs, and tradition. Arooj Aftab from Pakistan now lives in Brooklyn and released an amazing album that includes modern arrangements of ancient ghazal poetry on her album “Vulture Prince”:Canadian jazz bassist Cedric Dind-Lavoie resurrects old recordings of folk songs from Quebec and adds a modern piano and strings accompaniment on his album “Archives”: https://www.youtube.com/watch? v=9-3JwCBYAxs Omar Sosa performs a similar infusion of his piano playing into recordings he made with artists from East Africa over a decade ago on his album, “An East African Journey”.
