Balder Ten Cate & Friends – Lifelines (Self-Released)World music is actually someone’s regular music in some location and time in our world. It is played on instruments that look strange to us, but are common in other countries and regions of the world. Balder Ten Cate plays Romanian music on a variety of instruments: Cimbalom (a large hammered dulcimer), Moldovan (fretted) cobza (like a mandolin), and the Romanian pan flute. Balder’s new CD is called “Lifelines” and is comprised of a variety of Romanian folk musical tunes. One of my favorites is “Doina Muntenească and Switchback” which starts with Balder playing the cimbalom and gradually transitions into an accompaniment of accordion playing by Diana Storm.
