A recent successful example: Norwegian band Dim Gray was signed to English Electric Recordings, a label run by prog band Big Big Train. As a Big Big Train fan I figured ”Firmament” would be a good album and I wasn’t disappointed. I’m not sure what “genre” applies to Dim Gray, which is just fine with me. While they are on a progressive rock label, and toured with Big Big Train as well as Marillion, I wouldn’t call Dim Gray a prog band. I’ve seen Dim Gray described as art rock and if “cinematic pop” is a genre that might apply as well.
