Betty Louise Lane Coker was born October 21, 1941, in Cross Roads, TX to Claude and Lola Lane. She went to be with the Lord on January 17, 2025 in Mesquite, TX. She was 83 years of age. A family graveside service will be held in her honor at 2:00 PM on Wednesday 1-22-25, in Athens at the Oaklawn Memorial Park at 3100 FM 317. Mrs. Coker will lie in state from 12:00 P.M. to 1:30 P.M. on Wednesday at Autry's Carroll-Lehr Funeral Home. As a small child, she lived in Cross Roads and her family moved to Athens where she attended school. She was the youngest of five children and her older sisters assisted in raising her as a child. She loved her family and often told stories about growing up in Athens on Cayuga Drive, walking down Belmont, Red Top Grocery, Dodd Lake in Malakoff and the farming that her family did growing up in Henderson County. She was a devoted mother, wife, and Grandmother. She loved cooking and entertaining and was known to all for her famous chocolate cake, banana pudding, and southern style cooking. She was previously married to Dr. Tilmon J. Stanfield DDS for 23.5 years. In 1983, Betty began working at the First National Bank of Athens. She was extremely grateful for her nieces Linda Lane Blakely, and Diane Lane to help her in getting this job, having never worked outside of the dental career field. She worked at the bank until retirement in the mid 90's. In 1984, Betty married Billy Ray Coker and they enjoyed traveling, and took great pride in their home. Betty was preceded in death by her husband of 30 years, Billy Ray Coker, her parents,(Claude and Lola Lane) her sisters and brothers-in-law, (Lola and Fowler McCreary; Lera and Robert Penney): brother (Billy Lane and his wife Lorene Lane) She leaves behind many people who loved her dearly: her three children, Terri Lynn Stanfield Forney, TX; Lisa Ann Gevas and husband Robby of Cleveland, TX; and David Lane Stanfield and wife Linda Joyce Stanfield of Tyler, Texas. She additionally leaves behind seven Grandchildren and nine Great Grandchildren. Betty's life was characterized with good health and energy and continuous gratitude for God's grace, her husband, family and her great cooking!
